The Downsview Monumental Co. were commissioned by the Parish of St. Mary The Virgin, to create a special memorial for the Garden of Remembrance.

Specialist architects Carden & Godfrey designed the memorial garden and produced detailed drawing from which the craftsmen created the memorial but also excavated the ground and laid a deep foundation to take the heavy weight of the York stone memorial.
